The mom has a question...

Need to hurry with this - time is limited.
Shiloh got out AGAIN last nite - he IS safe and back home
but he was VERY determined to stay loose, until
my nephew caught up with him,
Shiloh doesn't stand a chance with a physically fit and totally able guy tracking him down.

He now goes out in the backyard, ONLY
with my 25ft. retractrable lead-
may even stay on it when I do get some blocks to put up.

My question-
and the other doggies, kitties, bunnies and bunny lovers/owners
may not want to read this part.
Does anyone know where I can find either a whole or part of
a wild rabbit pelt - the furry part.
It's got to be wild since a wild rabbit smells
better(?) than a domesticated or those raised for hunting.
I want it to put on a long pole and then use it to entice Shiloh to exercise
WITHIN the confines of the backyard.
And a plush toy will not work UNLESS
it has the wild rabbit smell.

I gotta tell ya-
if I hadn't been so worried and concerned for his safety,
I had a chance to watch him and listen as he hunted-
it is a beautiful sight to see a breed doing what they were bred to do.
I wish I could get him out to the country with a big open field and
just let him go, BUT
when my nephew did bring him home I was a little more concerned-
I do believe Shiloh was a little over-heated and that can be a life-threatening thing.
BUT HE IS SAFE AND WELL!

  1. Wish we could help, but Thunder would love to know if you find one - he thinks that would be a great toy:)

  2. Gosh we don't know how to help, maybe on E-Bay. Poor Shiloh is a slave to his own nose!

  3. I wonder if a hunting store would have something like that. To train hunting dogs to hunt. You also may want to try www.drsfosterandsmith.com

  7. This is not helpful to you at all, but maybe it will be mildly interesting in the "breed" category. We have wild rabbits right outside our back patio and sometimes they come right up to the patio. My beagle Seamus could care less about them. Never howls or chases them. Maybe he's not really beagle. Or, wherever he came from, he was raised to chase only people delivering mail! If one of the rabbits ever dies nearby, I know where to send the remains. ;-)

  10. You may be against them, but we have a radio fence, without it, Jack or Jill would have been road kill long ago. You can see the receiver on their collars. Just a thought - take off during storms.... Pet-Safe Radio Fence

  11. I have no idea how to help you with the wild rabbit pelt. I know how terrifying it can be when doggie gets loose in the big danger-filled world! Has Shiloh only recently started escaping? Is there some behavioural [re]training that you can try? Good luck with finding some solution soon :)

  13. Sometimes we see pelts for sale for that very purpose at dog events. We bought some kind of a pelt once for Stanzie. Her prey drive is so high, she about had a complete meltdown over it..haha!

Anyway, maybe someplace on the WWW might sell them. I'd google it.
