(This is kinda wordy so please bear with me)
This past Friday evening Diva Shasta started acting like she had something stuck in her throat - she kept swallowing and then pawing - starting back by her neck, under her ears and then moving her paws forward. Talk about contortionist - the way she moved her lower jaw then the way she was pawing at her neck and mouth, she looked as if she was trying to pull her teeth out and I really thought she might succeed. I kept an eye on her and had made up my mind that if she started having breathing problems then we would definitely be off to the ER vet. However, after I started massaging her mouth along the gumline, she began to quiet down, even laid down for me while I just sat by her and talked quiet and slowly rubbed along her gumline - outside her mouth. I had felt around the sides of her neck and around her throat - that didn't bother her and I didn't feel any enlargement. Then I looked inside her mouth - her gums were a bright red and acutely irritated - I'm sure part of it was due to her pawing but also they were clearly infected. The gums are more pink now and not quite so engorged HOWEVER after paying a visit to the vet today, she will probably end up with her second dental cleaning in two years - the vet told me after her first one that her teeth were bad. So why did I not take better care of her teeth? Why did I not at least brush them more often? I'm feeling kind of like a bad doggy mom. I guess I thought since both dogs ate the same kibble, and they both have antler chews and get only biscuits and crunchy stuff to chew on that would work out fine but Shiloh's teeth are in better shape. And even though they are related - Diva Shasta's mom was a litter-mate of Shiloh's - their dental condition is a lot different so here is proof - sometimes teeth problems can be hereditary - it came from Diva Shasta's sire. Now until we leave for the vet, the hardest thing is going to be Diva Shasta going WITHOUT food and water - especially with Shiloh around - they know that after I finish getting ready for work then that is breakfast time - maybe I can feed Shiloh on the deck while I get Shasta ready. Right now they are both taking their after potty-time naps. Anyway, I know dental cleanings are less serious then most needs for POTP but I would still appreciate if you all could say a little prayer or two for Diva Shasta. As with before, I am overly-concerned - after all she has done this before, she has been under anesthesia twice with no problems. All I know is my workday is going to last a LOOOOOONG time. Thank you in advance.

POTP for our beloved Diva!
POTP for Shasta. She'll do great and will be able to give you "sweet" kisses to you afterwards.

POP to you Shasta. We hope it all goes well. Our old fashioned vet swears by raw chicken wings. I met a dog who was quite old but had the greatest set of nashers I have ever seen. The lady explained her dog had wheat intolerance so they fed it raw chicken wings all its' life. My vet was right. We don't get them though as they'd probably end up in the bed. LOL! Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
We ALWAYS worry about anesthesia, no matter how small the procedure might be. So...count our paws in. We have them all crossed and joined together for Diva Shasta!
POP, you got it. I am all over it.
Blessings,

We have our paws crossed for Shasta!

Good luck and crossed paws! Sissy has some stink breath too, and I need to get to work since I don't want her to have a dental cleaning...
We have our Paws Crossed and send POTP fur our dear Diva.
Some of US just have more troubles with our teefs than others.. NOT your mom's fault at all.
POTP from one DIVA to another! Teeth issues suck. My little sis Phoenix has bad teeth, and she's only 9 months!

Pee.S When your momma isn't busy, could we ask y'all a few questions about therapy work? Mom is considering me becoming a therapy dog
Oh sweet gurl, I'll be keepin' my paws crossed for you fursure gurl! Ya know, some doggies just have better toothers than others. I don't thinks your Moms should feel bad at all. My Ma has never brushed my teeth, and they are fantastic. That could change I guess if things change, butts Ma keeps an eye (since I always have my mouth open, it's not hard to check! hehehe)
Keepin' you in my thoughts, and that really sucks about the no food! pffft!!
Kisses,
Ruby
All paws crossed for things to go well for Shasta. POTP coming your way. Mom likes to drop us off the night before we are going to have a procedure that requires fasting, makes it a lot easier to feed the rest of us.
Keep us posted.

We got all our feets crossed
