Now what - at vet with Lady Shasta

By the time this posts, we will be at the vet.  I know this started Monday because I have spent two nites on the sofa - once with Lady Shasta then last nite with her sleeping on her Beagle bed on the floor.
I am not sure what is wrong except she does not want to walk much - even when she is outside for very long she will lay down.
Sunday as we were going to bed, as she jumped up on the bed, she didn't make it and slid back down before I could catch her.   I am wondering if she hurt her lower bak and bak legs.  she does not really flinch if I touch her.

Then this morning, as I was getting her breakfast, which she didn't eat, I accidentally bumped her and of  course she yelped.
She also won't eat any treats.  She will not drink much either.
She is having a little trouble with pooping but that started before.  I wonder if it is all connected somehow.

I will  post an update when I know more - hopefully afteer the vet - very concerned since she is Angel Shiloh's niece by blood.
Please send POTP and prayers.
Gotta go

From Mom Kim - another quick new update on Lord Shiloh

We will be going to the dogtor later this
morning at 10am.

Lord Shiloh is still not eating much at all-
he had MAYBE 4-5 tiny pieces of chicken YESTERDAY
and is looking really bad.
I TRIED to get him to eat a scrambled egg which
he loves but that was no go.

The vet said not to try to get him to eat anymore so
not sure what to make of that.

He is alert, walks on his own with
a little prodding SOMETIMES and drinks/pees ok.
I just found out and it put a big smile on
my face and heart-
even tho it was Lady Shasta who led the chase for
the squirrel, barking all the way-
I heard (for the 1st time for awhile)
several deep barks from Lord Shiloh as he started to
run to the back of the yard but
slowed down to a fast walk
BUT kept going til
he got to the far back corner of the yard.
So, that Beagle instinct is still alive and well and
he is responding to it.

I have a few ideas of what the vet may do, after all
I am a dog mom and a worrier too so
there are all kinds of ideas rushing thru my head.

Please, I know it sounds like a broken record coming from the Beaglebratz Manor
please keep up the prayers, POTP, purrayers and
anything else possible.
Thank-you.

MORE POTP NEEDED PLEASE - a new update for Lord Shiloh on Wednesday can't be wordless

Lady Shasta is being the good nurse this picture shows.,  She does not like it when her big brother, Lord Shiloh is not feeling well.  And I hope we are over the roller coaster ride we have been on.  He told you about the new vet we went too - found out he had developed a skin infection and that his ringworm was not the problem now.  Also at that vet visit we found out he had a couple of swollen lymph nodes that were a little painful too.  Also get a new antibiotic which in turn ended up doing a number (and not a good number either) on his appetite.  Ok - in all fairness don't know for sure if the antibiotic was responsible for this, it is a rare side effect after all and the vet was wondering if there was something else going on - he wanted to do a biopsy of those swollen lymph nodes and they would have to do that under anesthesia.  That really worried me because of Lord Shiloh's overall poor condition and his age ( next month).

So while I was thinking about all this, our other vet called with the test results of the skin culture from Kansas State Vet School - no wonder Lord Shiloh was having problems fighting this skin infection - he had not one, not two but THREE strains of bacterial infection going on.  He also had a new med based on these results.

Ok, time to regroup and rethink this process.  I called back the new vet clinic - explained to them this whole thing and what I had just learned.  And that I had decided, given Shiloh's current state of health and age, hold off on the biopsy which would mean putting him under anesthesia.  Now Lord Shiloh is only on the med recommended by K-State based on the results of that test.

He also appears to be at least a little more interested in food - just not any dog food that he was eating.  He has eaten bites of cheeseburger, boiled chicken, soft dog treats.  I had boiled some veggies yesterday so they would be easy to make into a mash - still didn't want them until I drizzled a little honey on them then I saw the Beagle gusto in eating.  Today he is eating raw cauliflower.  He is eating pieces of a hamburger bun - a while ago I was sitting on the floor and he was lying on the sofa - he saw what I had and jumped down to come over and get it.  I am a bit more optimistic - there is still the issue of swollen lymph nodes but I also know that could be due to the infection - just have to wait and see.

Just in case anyone was wondering - the link to some info I read about Doxycycline -

DOXYCYCLINE INFO

reading some of the bacteria that it is used to treat showed me just how bad Lord Shiloh's infection is especially with 3 different kinds.

By the way, if anyone has ideas what I could feed him besides kibble since he won't touch it,  I would appreciate it if you could let me know.

AND PLEASE - could I get a bit more prayers and POTP for my little man - he looks so sad and not feeling good at all - FAR from this pic-

Update on Lord Shiloh

Mom Kim here - I was really hoping that I could tell you all that Lord Shiloh's ringworm was just about all cleared up....................

HOWEVER - that would be a lie.  If anything it may have rallied itself (the ringworm) and has now spread further - it is now on the inside of his back legs, around his tail and there are small lesions on the outside of his backlegs and also all over his tummy.  I still have not heard back from the vet we usually have gone to - in fact when I called him to ask about the test results, he reminded me that he would call me when they came in.

At least me and Lady Shasta are still showing NO lesions.

There is something else I'm not sure I have mentioned before.  Lord Shiloh also has a movable lump under his chin - sort of where his head joins his neck.  He still eats altho not with his usual Beagle gusto - he is drinking good and pottying good.  Last time we were at this same vet - the vet looked at it, moved it around but said he would biopsy that later because he didn't have time right then.

I have been a bit dissatisfied for some time with this vet (I know I have posted about it before).  Oh, and after that initial 10-day course of antibiotics was done, I mentioned continuing them or some anti-fungal - this was a no go since the vet said not needed.

Soooooo....
What now?  We have an appointment with a different vet this afternoon.  I have already been told that he will want to do a full exam and likely a skin culture.  I also mentioned that lump and it will likely get checked out too.  I will try to do an update later today.

Please keep my little man in your thoughts and prayers and send some POTP.

NEED SOME HELP OR THOUGHTS AND POTP

Mom Kim here -
Here is Lord Shiloh this past late summer

...and here he is now

These pictures, some taken today and other times at
various stages of the lesion's development -
they get worse then heal then come back.
Oh - you can't tell but some of the lesions are on different parts of his body-
side, tummy and he has a couple along his spine but
they never have opened into sores.
They do itch a little off and on but
he rarely bothers them.

The vet said it was ringworm and after checking out
I would likely agree EXCEPT
'Ringworm is contagious and Shasta is showing
ABSOLUTELY  no lesions-
the vet put him on an antibiotic and not an anti-fungal and
the vet diagnosed it WITHOUT further testing after
looking at it.
Maybe the vet has seen this enough times to know
when he sees it and
no anti-fungal med is not really needed-
this is the first time I have ever seen it on
ANY of my dogs or my family's.

So-
I am asking if any of you have had experience with
ringworm or do you have any other thoughts?
Yes - Shiloh is still eating and pottying fine.
When he is outside his energy level remains the same

And please
could I get some POTP for my Lord Shiloh?
Thank you.

POTP & PRAYERS - WAITING TO HEAR

NOT EITHER OF THE BEAGLEBRATZ

It's the same old - same old stuff
about Mom Kim - AGAIN!!!
There is the additional possibility of the cornea transplant from 2 years ago rejecting altho like I said,
this is still in question.
I'm not sure exactly when this started AGQIN or if it really
ever did completely heal from early last month.
The epithelial defect is back, 5mm.
And I still have the nodule (not new)
right above the defect.
Once again there is mention of surgery HOWEVER that is still my decision.
I was not able to go to work today but I do hope to tomorrow.
My local eye doc took more pics of my eye to send to the specialist in Overland Park, Kansas-
this is what I am waiting to hear about; will I go there this week for an appointment or will he wait until he is here in Topeka next week.
This is part of the reason none of us have been online lately-
 reading or commenting.

I NEED to cut this short and get
to bed.
Yes, like I said before,
Shiloh and Diva Shasta are fine.
I am still hoping to put off that surgery until AFTER the
first of the year.
My ideal situation would be for the stem cell tissue I have already had transplanted in 3/13 totally heal my eye and improve my vision for the rest of my life.
HOWEVER I would settle for just getting through the rest of 2014.

Oh, and by the way, "our" goal of making 1000 posts by the end of this year - that flews out the window a long time ago.
I do want to give a special thanx for our guest bloggers this year and I hope we can do this again next year.

In the meantime, not sure when the next post will be.
I do ask for your prayers, POTP and purrayers-
I DO BELIEVE THEY WORK!

Ho Hum - POTP need contines and intensifies

Ok - not gonna try and cover up or make light of this and please be understanding of any typos since my vision is pretty messed up today - even stayed home from work which is a rarity unless my vision just won't allow anything - which is basically wshere it was today.

Ok so for reference, click HERE I had my appt. with the cornea specialist last Tuesday - the epithelial defect that my local eye doc thought he saw  a few days before, was gone - this was good HOWEVER he removed - DID NOT replace the bandage contact lens I pretty much depend on for decent vision (still not sure why he did this but I know leaving a contact on the eye for 2 weeks can also cause problems - should have asked him)  He had PLANNED on leaving it out at least 2 weeks and I was able to work all last week HOWEVER today was different.  Now there is NO DOUBT there IS an epithelial defect (this is like a skin tear on the surface of the cornea) and it is larger than any I have had before.   During my appt today with my local eye doc he also took pics of my eye to email to the cornea specialist and also put another bandage contact lens in (these are basically a contact lens with no power but they PROMOTE healing and maintaining good condition of the eye).  So, after my specialist looked at the pics and read the email, he called my local doc to let him know what the next step is - I have another appt with the specialist next Tuesday (11/11) At least I don't have to take time off for that sppt since I am off that day.  HOWEVER (aren't you tired of that word - I know I am) it is the time between now and then that is really important - a lot of POTP is needed because that defect on my cornea NEEDS to be reduced a great deal or totally gone OTHERWISE I face surgery - another stem cell transplant possibly  followed by another cornea transplant about three months later - this is the surgery I was wanting to put off as long as possible due to time off I would need and finances.

So - the main reason I would appreciate the POTP and prayers is the epithelial defect - my doc says it usually takes awhile for it to heal - I don't have awhile(time off from work)  He has had a hard time before because it healed faster than what he thought it would - thanks to YOUR POTP.

Also not sure how much me or the Beaglebratz will be around for the next few days so if anyone wonders where we are - that's why we are MIA.  Now, before I get any closer to loosing my patience with blogger, I am signing off.  Oh - the Beaglebratz are fine - doing their usual wonderful snuggles and cuddles.

Hmmmmm - kind of odd after my most recent post

Mom Kim here AGAIN!
So I have been lazy - yes, I admit it-
as well as busy taking care of a few chores so
have not posted since my

In that post I mentioned that my
eye/vision which had been worsening was now
somewhat stable.
FAST FORWARD TO TODAY (Thursday, 10/23).
I WAS scheduled to just go and get my contact lense replaced with a new one.
HOWEVER-
for the past couple of days I've been noticing a bit of a change ... and NOT a good change either.
I was not entirely surprised by this but
my eye doctor did find that my vision was about HALF as good as it had been-
was about 20/60 and today was 20/150.
Now while this does sound bad-
that is DISTANT vision which I do not really use since I don't drive anyway.
What I am most concerned with is my
READING vision-
can I still read and do my job-
I can still blog.
The cloudiness is what has changed for the worse along with the development of a
small epithelial defect
(like a skin tear on the surface of your eye).
Once again I have an appointment with my
cornea specialist next Tuesday-
sooner if the need is there.
I am already doing everything else(medicine).

In that post (link above) I talked about
not doing things and letting life pass me by-
part of it too is the "what ifs".
There were some things I had stopped doing because of the "what ifs"-

"What if walking the dogs had a
bad effect on my vision?"

"What if while getting Shiloh or Diva Shasta ready to visit messed up my eye?"

Now I do continue working but "what if" all the computer use is having a bad effect on my eye?
I know I have read that it can so why do I
continue to work altho I'm suppose to
not use the computer to enjoy my life at home?

So now I have to ask myself-
WHY have I given up walking the Beaglebratz
AND
doing therapy visits-
I am STILL having problems with my eye.

Ok - that is enough for now.
Hopefully the Beaglebratz will be bak
for the next post.

And I almost forgot since I'm not all that comfortable doing so-
but I would appreciate your prayers and POTP to
heal that defect and the cloudiness improves.

POTP desperately needed for EMMETT @ Oh My Dog!

Back in April of 2014,

Emmett was first diagnosed with a

highly aggressive form of cancer called

hemangiosarcoma.

Due to how aggressive this form of cancer is and

the fact that by the time it is usually found, it

is usually too late to do anything -

Emmett immediately underwent

x-rays of his heart, liver, and spleen to look for

any additional tumors and to

 look for fluid build-ups and

at that time nothing was found.

Even after an ultrasound, no additional tumors

were found however due to how aggressive

this cancer is - there is no cure.

Emmett has been put on two meds to hopefully

slow down the cancer.

Emmett has a bucket list and

he has been on his own road trip recently.

Again, if you would like to read more about

Emmett and the whole gang at Oh My Dog!

and I almost forgot to add that Emmett celebrated his Gotcha Day this past weekend.

If you would like to read about Emmett's Roadtrip

If you are on Facebook, also

Oh My Dog! on FACEBOOK!

Now that's a lot of reading HOWEVER we in Blogville
all know that we NEED to show Emmett'n his pawrents
what we mean by
POTP, Prayers and Purrayers!
So if you don't click anywhere else then at least
click on that first link I showed you!
Let's show Emmett and family that we got their backs!

POTP - This time IS one of us - the SHILOH edition

Mom Kim here- hopefully this flare-up won't last long and I pray that is all this is - a flare-up of Shiloh's back problems - IVDD - Intervertebral Disk Disease.

He had kind of a busy morning yesterday - at least for him.  First we had an appointment with his dogtor - routine shots and nail trim is all.  After that we went to Petsmart - his favorite store.  Those two things by themselves were probably not the culprit.  It was getting in and out of the vehicles - a mini-van (a taxi)  and my sis's SUV so the step-up was a bit more than just a car.  I did notice that he was reluctant at getting in the vehicles.   Then I remembered something else - our vet's assistant needs constant reminders to be careful when picking up Shiloh and I am sure Shiloh was picked up (didn't hear a whine or yelp but with all that the vet had to do, and the fact the vet could not pick up Shiloh (he's got lower back/leg problems of his own) I wouldn't be surprised if this contributed to Shiloh's current problems.  Something else I'm wondering about and praying that I'm wrong - did the injection itself trigger something or the drug cause some kind of a drug interaction - he's never had problems with the drugs before however there is always a first time for everything.

Usually Shiloh will let Diva Shasta lay next to him - not now and he really doesn't even want me touching him- not even this morning when he came in and was a little damp - he loves to be toweled off, not this time - I had to stop him from walking away - at least he IS laying down and sleeping now - earlier he couldn't even settle.

So this time when I ask for POTP, purrayers and prayers, it is for one of the Beaglebratz - Shiloh.

I am also praying that the Duralactin he is on, has been on for a couple of years now, will continue to do it's great work that it did before (and yes, this is a shame-less plug for the supplement - it has done wonders for him - last time he had a flare-up, it was only a few days when Shiloh was looking at me like this-
